Pain into Penmanship– Hobbz expresses Lessons in his Lyrics.
“When did you fall in love with hip-hop?” The token question borrowed from one of Rick Famuyiwa’s classic films, “Brown Sugar”, was responded to quicker than a blink by the north St. Louis/Baden native. “Now that’s a distinct question that I know the answer to…” An instant confirmation of his connection to the culture and craft. A hint to exactly where his passion derives…a heartbeat for the music.

Christopher Hobbs, aka “Just Hobbz”, remembers the very moment he fell in love with hip-hop. “I was in 5th grade, and I heard “Heard ‘Em Say” by Kanye West.”, he recalls. “When I heard that song, that’s when my musical ear just opened up.” Hobbz began studying lyrical content more closely, and then eventually began writing his own. He says music became like an escape and a “form of therapy”. “Pain is basically what fuels my love for music.”, Hobbz admits. “Once I get my affairs in order, I may also be inspired do something else as well.”

Hobbz describes himself as the “king of cadences” when it comes to his style of delivery. He is also known for his unique storytelling in his lyrics. “I definitely think my subject matter separates me from a lot of people.”, he says. “Enlightening and entertaining at the same time.” He released his first project, “Hood Proverbs” in 2015 on YouTube, which “sparked the plug” as he describes. In May 2023, Just Hobbz released his album, “Bag of Jew-El’s” on streaming platforms. His debut single from the album, “Hot Sauce”, has been making waves in the local music scene, followed by his first music video for the same single.

Under his music label, Pardon The Ruckus; Hobbz also runs a baseball program for local youth, and “Lou Tang”, a music and empowerment group. He is also partnered with local community outreach organizations, such as Oasis Health and Better Family Life. “The goal with Pardon The Ruckus is to combine business, outreach, and the arts.” Just Hobbz’ passion for music, empowerment, and community can be felt in his artwork and social service. Hopefully one day…a new 5th grader will credit HIM for being the CHANGE.

“Be persistent and patient. Understand that the seed you plant today…will not become a tree by tomorrow.” -Just Hobbz
