Girl on Faith & Fire- Sammie LIGHTS up her listeners.
A voice worth standing ovation. A soul stirring stage presence. A smile that lights up a room. Sammie StarR has the essentials for the limelight and higher heights. Sitting through a chat with her after her photoshoot at Kre8 Place in south St. Louis was an inspiring delight. A girl with a triumphant story behind her music. A woman with impeccable courage. It all SHINES through her artistry. Let’s catch a glimpse.

“I started singing when I was three.”, shares the North County/St. Louis native singer. It’s safe to say that Starr “Sammie StarR” Logan knew music before the alphabet. “I began singing in church. I had my first solo, then my mom was like “Oh.”, she recalls. Making her mark in the ears of worshippers embarked a journey of faith, and self-discovery of her God given gift.
During her childhood, the Hazelwood Central alumnus would spend her summers in Detroit with her grandparents. “My grandfather was a songwriter. Him and his brothers were in a music group.”, says Starr. “He taught me how to put songs together. So I would be in his basement, just writing songs.” Her first song was written for her mom for Mother’s Day. “I believe my family were the first people to really help me cultivate my gift and my love for music. Now that I’m an adult…I feel like music saved my life.”
Sammie shares that during her successful battle with breast cancer, songwriting became her “journal”. “I always say that breast cancer happened FOR me and not TO me.”, she adds. “It pushed me to put out music professionally. It was something very personal to me, and I believe God allowed me to go through it for a reason.”

Starr’s music is heavily inspired by her life experiences, family, and Christian faith. “My mom is my hero. I was in the foster care system, and my brother and I were adopted when I was 7. My adoptive mom was a single parent. I’m grateful for her because she didn’t have to do that.” She also credits her high school music teacher, Ms. Taylor, for being a listening ear and encourager. “High school was rough for me, but I was glad to have her classroom as a safe space.”, she reflects.

The songstress spent her high school years in the choir, and also learning instruments and reading sheet music. She greatly admires the gospel singer, Cece Winans, neo soul artist, India Arie, and R&B/gospel singer, Fantasia. “Fantasia’s the reason I tried out for American Idol. Following her journey, listening to her music, I just loved her growth.”
In December 2022, Sammie StarR released her debut album, “Zoetic”, on streaming platforms. “It was my gospel album. That was personal to me, and I learned so much since releasing that.”, she explains. In September 2023, she followed up with R&B single, “Good”. Her “Lover Girl” EP was released in October of the same year, and her latest single is “Buggin (Bonus Track)”. Sammie describes her artistic style as “nurturing”. “You get the gospel, the R&B, I tap into my rap a little bit. Overall, consistently I would say…its love.”
Sammie StarR is currently promoting, and pursuing more performances, collaborations, and organic fanbase growth. “I just want to share my art with the world. I’m not looking to be the next Beyonce’.”, she confirms. “God gave me this gift, and I just want to use it. My team and I, we’re doing pretty good.” Like a twinkle in the night sky, Sammie’s stardom illuminates from afar…and the only way is UP.
