Songs of the Knight- Jam to the decree of King A.G.

A man of music. A man with a message. A man with a plan. Unity and love are the nectar of this noble King’s notes, spreading sweetness through serenades. I had the privilege to catch a sit down with this budding artist before his photoshoot in south St. Louis.

“No matter what school I went to, I always found that music was my favorite class”. St. Louis born/London, UK raised artist King A.G or “King Gathii”, felt drawn to the arts as the perfect place of expression. “What made me take it more seriously as a teenager, is when Disney gave us “High School Musical”. A.G. fell in love with the music, dance, and theatrics, and it shows well.

Growing up in a military family, A.G. relocated frequently during his childhood. “Sometimes we were in London, sometimes Dublin, then Canada to Brooklyn…all over.”, he explains. This exposure to various cultures tremendously shaped A.G.’s diverse taste in musical and artistic influence. “The expression is what I love, something I couldn’t fully do growing up.” The artist admires many legends, such as the late Prince, and Michael Jackson. He also admired the British pop group, Spice Girls.

King Gathii’s love for nostalgic music can be felt in his music and performance. “There’s a saying that says, “the curse of the artist is that she is found doing what she does.” So, at some point I had to get out the songs that were in me.”, he says. At the age of 17, King began writing songs. “One day, my mum’s friend came to me and said, “God told me to give you this keyboard”. So, one eye opened and I was like “Okay”. Then from there, I started writing.”

In May 2021, Gathii released his debut single, “Asians Are Essential”, on streaming platforms. In April 2022, he followed up with single, “Dear API Community”. King Gathii also released a tribute song to the late Vicha Ratanapakdee, a Thai American citizen killed in a racial hate crime in 2021. His latest single “Afro Woman” was released in early April 2024.

King Gathii is currently recording, performing, and working on his upcoming project, “Neoebolove”. “It’s going to be predominantly for Afro people.” As this artist continues to shine his light on equality and love, another light of STARDOM is shining right back. We see you, King.
