Flavor in Your Ear- Wentzville MC kicks us something NyCe.

Meet Devaron “NyCeGoHard” Davis. A well-rounded creative with a spark rooted in nostalgic throwbacks and musical kodak. Inspired by the ol’skool, but attending in a fresh class of hits, NyCe serves a stylish hip-hop vibe of “retro metro”. We meet before his south St. Louis show at The Kre8 Place, catch the flavor.

Wentzville, Missouri born MC and entrepreneur, Devaron Davis aka “NyCeGoHard”, spent his childhood in the countryside soaking up sun and the “oldies”. “It was Biz Markie. The first time I heard him beatbox.”, he recalls. “Once I learned how to make noises like that, I couldn’t stop.”

The artist grew up with his grandfather, surrounded by classics. “I grew up on Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry. Berry lived in Wentzville and knew my grandpa. I would get off the bus and see them drinking Stag on the porch.”, remembers Davis. “Along with Clyde, he played bass for Boosie Collins, and Leon Anderson, he played baseball in the Negro league. I had no idea who they were at the time.” NyCe also credits his inspirations to blues legend B.B. King, rappers Nas, DMX, and more recent, rapper J. Cole. “To do a record with J. Cole…life’s completed.”, he laughs.

The 38 yr. old MC describes his style as “Big K.R.I.T. meets Dreamville”. “A little Kendrick Lamar in there, with some blues.”, explains NyCe. “I like melodic storytelling. Stuff that’s real musical that I can perform with my band. Whatever I do in the studio, I always think, “how is it going to sound live?” The artist began his artistry in a group called “Mo Ville”. “Our first project was called “Movement.”, he says.

In October 2023, NyCeGoHard released his debut solo single, “Self Made”, featuring L8NIGHTDRV on streaming platforms. In January of 2024, he followed up with singles “Levels” and “The Hills”, with artist Just Love. “I do a lot of life experience.”, NyCe comments about his musical messages. “Overcoming dark times, encouragement, overcoming those obstacles that come against you. One of my favorite prayers is the Serenity prayer. Be mindful of the things you can change and what you can’t. Be encouraged to change what you can. Have the wisdom to know the difference”. His latest single, “Drownin’” was released in May 2024.

NyCeGoHard is currently focused on rebranding. “I’m currently working on reintroducing myself as a solo artist. I think Kre8 Place is a perfect place to do it. I went through a lot of things between that group (Mo Ville) and now as a solo artist, had two kids and living and learning”. NyCe is also a barber, film executive and owner of LGND fashion brand, expanding his talent and vision to many ventures. “If it provides for me to live the life I want to live, I’m SUCCESSFUL”.
