Meet Alicea Simone. The artist, the rare, extraordinaire. This multi-faceted creator curves the corner of imagination and depth with her vivid and expressive pieces. Captivating to the eye. Feeling to the soul. Catch my chat with the stellar behind the strokes.

St. Louis North County native artist Alicea Simone Jennings sparks a creative flame when it comes to curating her collection of pieces. “Nature and life just bring the creativity out of me.”, shares the 30 yr. old painter. “I’ve always been a painter since I was a little child.” The Hazelwood Central grad spent her earlier years soaking up after school hours watching a particular “afroed” legend on TV. “I loved Bob Ross.”, Alicea says.

While raised by an inspiring mother, Simone stayed encouraged and engaged in the arts. “She’s my biggest inspiration. The strongest and sweetest person I know.” Developing a deeper passion for painting and photography, the STLCC Florissant Valley alum made visual artwork her field of focus. Alicea specializes in oil and acrylic, and commissioned portrait paintings for clients. Her personal catalog tends to be vivid canvases of “inner and higher” introspection. “What I do is take the portraits of people and put them in a creative scene.”, explains the artist. “It can be anywhere, like the ocean, space, flowers, or anything that I feel I should add.”

Giving credit to her high school art teachers, Alicea Simone is grateful for their one-on-one guidance and influence. “I don’t want to get their names wrong, but I definitely thank my pottery, painting, drawing, and craft teachers.”, she says. “They really pushed me.”

The creative is also a licensed cosmetologist, makeup artist and hairstylist. “While pursuing my art degree, I decided I would rather paint on the side. I was looking for jobs and I came across a lot of makeup and hairstylist jobs.” The cosmetologist specializes in natural, glamour and costume makeup and ethnic hairstyling. Her cosmetic work has also been featured in several music videos and local events.

Alicea Simone is currently active with commissioned pieces, exhibitions, and cosmetic work. “I’m also working on a series to put in a local art gallery.” Alicea plans to continue to grow her clientele and eventually expand her creative reach.
