Sizzles & Sounds- From beats to bars, Jockey ignites the FLAME.
Meet Jockey Blaze. A local lyricist with the talent and name to engulf the game. From the theatre to the tracks, this hot pick takes melodies into his own hands. I chat with the artist about his road of rhapsody. Tap in.

“It all started with the plays, opera, and thespian club.”, shares the St. Louis native. Jeremiah “Jockey Blaze” Henderson spent his high school years at McKinley High soaking up the performance arts. “I just always enjoyed being on stage. Just getting roles in operas and different things. Reading those scripts and doing day and night shows really ignited my passion for music and poetry.”
During his younger years, Henderson’s love for music was highly inspired by R&B. “R&B was my first love.”, says Jockey. “At that time, it was like Usher, Carl Thomas, and Avant. That type of music. As a young buck, just sitting next to the speaker I was like “damn I don’t know what you’re saying but the groove its giving, it’s a good song.”

As the 31 yr. old artist became more accustomed to the stage and performing, Jockey Blaze found solace in exploring his personal musical path. “Being in show choir and having more solos and stuff, it gave me the feeling of having my moment to show how I felt about music and giving my spin.”, explains Blaze. Hearing rap artists such as Mike Jones and Webbie, gave Jockey the big push into lyricism. “It made me be like ok, let me go ahead and put my words out now.” His first projects, King Antares and Urban Hippie were dropped in 2009. “That was back when I was incorporating autotune into my rap before it became a big thing.” Blaze nurtured his rap artistry in south city in the Blank Space community with fellow artists such as MME, Mvstermind, and Souls of Liberty. He also performed with rap artist, Smino.

“I heard them articulate who they are, so let me say who I am.” Blaze describes his music as a “groove”. “You’re definitely going to find something you like.”, says the MC. “A southern base.”, he continues. “The sounds we enjoy from southern music mixed with an East and West coast vibe that makes you think about the lyrics. At the same time, you can’t guess what I will say next. It’s that Midwest swing. A little bit of everything.” In February of 2015, Jockey Blaze released his debut album, The Shawn Kombs Projeck on streaming services. He followed up with Shawn Kombs album in December of the same year. His third studio album, Urban Hippie Still was released in December 2023 before his latest single Jordan Chiles, named after the gold medal winning gymnast. “The fact that I’m able to pull inspiration from everywhere, I don’t put myself in a box.”, the producer explains.
Jockey Blaze is currently writing hits and laying tracks. “I just want to keep making good music for people that appreciate what I write, and to make money off of what I put out. Also to keep ownership of what I’m doing and consistently pay all of my bills.” The artist is on the right track to higher reach and glow up in real time. “Check your mindset. Know who you’re engaging with. Highly educate yourself on who you are and what you want out of music.” -Jockey Blaze
