She Writes was first conceived in thought in the early 2010s by writer, artist and entrepreneur Tekasheena N. Dick while eating chicken alone at her table. “The chicken was good.” she says. “The extra greasiness I think is what sparked the idea of expression. Then I grabbed a napkin. I was inspired.” *jokes*. Originally, it was a poetic idea to write intimate and love poems on scrolls to sell to the “unsingle” to give their significant others for a special occasion like Valentine’s Day. “I still plan to do that.”, she adds. “They need me in these unromantic streets.”
However, she wanted to take it further and was inspired by the divine art community of her hometown, St. Louis, Missouri. “I come from a family of artists of many kinds, but my first love is writing. So, I wanted to give back to the arts by writing articles on the amazing connections and discoveries I make. In this city, it never ends.” This blog is also dedicated to her late mother, Angela. “She was my heart.”, says the writer. “She was also an aspiring writer, so her spirit and pride are in every article.”
