Bright Beyond Sight- Big Akh shares his vision through VERSE.
Meet Big Akh, an enlightened MC who transforms his trials into tunes, pain into penmanship, his impairment into IMPACT. Anchored in his faith and truth, this downtown St. Louis based artist is dedicated to his art, expression, and helping us find the “light at the end of the tunnel”. Tap in as I learn the story behind his tunnel vision.
“Life is a big book that was already written.”, shares the west St. Louis born MC. “Throughout the years, I’ve heard people tell their story. It’s time for me to tell mine.” Vision impaired (legally blind) artist, Big Akh, is here to shine light on his belief in the meaning of life, love, and lessons in his own way. That way…is music.

Growing up, the 35 yr. old artist was drawn to music by his environment and pop culture. “I never really looked up to anybody, but I did listen to artists like Jay-Z, Hot Boyz, people of that nature.”, he says. “I never really wanted to be a rapper, but after I got shot at age 19, I was like “F**k it, I’m the new 50, might as well tell my story.”

Big Akh’s artistic style can be described as “uplifting”. “I’m just a blind brother trying to help the people see.”, he explains. “I’m physically blind, but spiritually I see fine.” Akh is not just a music artist, but also a motivational speaker to the local youth. “The youth are walking around blind with two eyes, and I used to be the same way. So now, I’m just trying to lead them a different direction. Keep them from crashing, like I did.”
Big Akh’s first recorded single was “Still Outside”. “I did that with my late friend, back in 2018 when I got out of prison.”, he recalls. In January of 2023, Akh released his debut single, “She Lit” on streaming platforms. He followed up with single, “Momma Told Me”. In June 2023, Big Akh released his debut EP, titled “Jahiliyyah”. The artist was also featured on rapper Anonymous Chase’ single, “Get Back”.

Currently, Big Akh is performing, speaking to youth, and prepping to release more music. “I have a lot of music I haven’t put out yet.” Akh plans to expand to other ventures of business as well. “Anything convenient comes with a price, you have to be willing to pay.” We thank artists like Big Akh for speaking their truth, learning from their past, and paying it forward.
