Sapphire Phoenix’s “Personal”- A catalogue of Heartbreak & Harmony.
Love. Life. Lyricism. Aungela (formerly known as Sapphire Phoenix), sets the record straight with her debut album of bluntly relatable ballads. From getting over your ex to attracting the next, this candid collection is a “must vibe” to add to the lover girl’s soundtrack!
A STORY OF SCARS:
Golden morning. Cat meeting me in the hallway at my bedroom door. As I head towards the kitchen for my morning coffee and detox smoothie, I put “Personal” on the Bluetooth in my living room. As my cat Marie swirls around my ankles for her food bowl filling, I hear “I couldn’t save us, so I just walked away…” (lyrics from the first track, “Scars”). As I’m scooping Marie’s Meow Mix from the cabinet, the “lover girl” in me shouts out, “Okay!”. Leaving her food on the counter, I strut to my living room to have a closer listen. Arms folded in impression, Marie hops on my shoulder. We vibe and sway together in sync…and in her hunger and impatience with me. “Personal” interrupted the day, in the best way.
Singer/songwriter/actress Aungela “formerly Sapphire Phoenix” Word, leaves her open-hearted transparency on the tracks in this project. “I was beginning to mentally check out of my marriage at the time when I started writing Personal.”, says Aungela. “By the time we got divorced, I wrote my last song, which is the first song on the album, Scars. I was in a dark place. I was able to write through the pain.”

The artist credits the music talent to fellow artists MU$ICMIND, Elijah Neeley, and producing credits to Phoinix Keyz. “Phoinix had a lot to do with the production of my album. As well as my best friend Ben Chandler, he goes by MU$ICMIND.”, she explains. “Elijah Neeley is a phenomenal artist and bass player in St. Louis.” Her album was curated with live instruments in the studio, which she is “very proud” of.
FAVORITES:
“My number 1 favorite song from the album is “Hard Pill To Swallow.”, shares the songwriter. “Then it would have to be “No Favors” and “No Connection.” As for me, the critic, my Top 3 from the 8-track masterpiece is confidently “Scars”, “Sundress”, and the bold and beautiful ballad “No Favors”. “I feel like that can go for anybody.”, Aungela expresses about the track. “A job, a friend, just anything.” The artist also released a remix to the song titled “No Favors Pt. 2”, featuring Tim B.
CONCLUSION:
“Personal” for me hits PERSONALLY. As a divorcee myself and bachelorette, I felt every bit of every track. The trial, the error, the triumph. Sapphire Phoenix’ niche for top notch melodic story telling excites me about her next project. The peace she carries from her past is beautifully entwined into this album. It’s a gift to the music lover and the motivation seeker. Dual DOPEness.
